ICAS11
From 15 till 19 July 2019 the 11th International Convention of Asia Scholars (ICAS) was held in Leiden. This is the most inclusive international gathering in the field of Asian Studies. ICAS11 has attracted participants from over 75 countries to engage in global dialogues on Asia that transcend boundaries between academic disciplines and geographic areas. More than 2000 Asia specialists and representatives of civil society were expected to attend. The programme included panels and roundtable discussions, craft exhibitions and a film and documentary festival.
Heritage on the Move
Heritage and migration go hand in hand. People move around the world, and so does their heritage. Cultural heritage is often understood in terms of local identity alone. But in fact it travels across the globe because of trade, human migrations and many other forms of connectivity, including mass media; and it has done so since times immemorial. In this process people may change, but so does their heritage. This modest exhibition of photographs, also to be seen online, reflect the vision of scholars from LeidenGlobal partners regarding ‘Heritage on the Move’, touching themes such as International Law, forced migration and ethnic identity.
